This bill revises the functions assigned to Assistant Secretaries within the Department of Energy, focusing on energy emergency and security. It emphasizes responsibilities related to energy infrastructure, security, and resilience, as well as emerging threats, cybersecurity, supply, emergency planning, preparedness, coordination, response, and restoration. Additionally, the bill provides for the provision of technical assistance and support to protect against, detect, and respond to energy security threats, risks, and incidents upon request from State, local, or Tribal governments or energy sector entities, in coordination with other Federal agencies.
Energy Emergency Leadership Act
This bill expands the list of functions that the Secretary of Energy must assign to assistant secretaries under the Department of Energy Organization Act to include energy emergency and energy security functions, such as responsibilities with respect to energy infrastructure and cybersecurity.
The Department of Energy must ensure that such functions are performed in coordination with relevant federal agencies.
